Design Playbook

At eBay, there was a big design initiative by our CEO, John Donahoe who hired John Meada, chair of the ebay inc. Design Advisory Board to help to form a vibrant design community across all of ebay and paypal.

From the Philadelphia (KOP) office about 40 people including the studio folks hopped on the rented bus to head to the ebay office in NYC to meet John Meada.

Once we got to the New York office, I introduced myself to many designers from other east coast locations at ebay I never knew we have many designers.

The workshop started by John Meada asking each one of us “What is design?” “What it means to be a designer at ebay”. No matter what titles you have, many designers were articulate in describing the definition of design, but we were collectively expressing our passion for design. It was an amazing moment when the group of designers sharing the same hopes and dreams about design.

I have attended several workshops, but this workshop inspired us to create the Playbook and share within the ebay and externally as well. This Playbook is a living document that defines our design beliefs and approach to design.
